Tetrick Named Harness Driver Of The Year

POSTED: 12:27 pm EST November 29, 2007

(Sports Network) - Leading driver Tim Tetrick has been voted the 2007 Harness Driver of the Year by the U. S. Harness Writers Association. Tetrick was a unanimous selection by the voters.

Tetrick leads the nation with 1,086 victories and has earned $16,533,133. His win total is already a record for one year. He snapped the 1998 record of 1,077 wins held by Walter Case, Jr. and Brian Sears' earnings mark set in 2005. Sears earned more than $15 million two years ago.

Tetrick recorded his first Breeders Crown victory this year with Artistic Fella in the $500,000 Older Male Pace at Mohawk Raceway.

He will receive the Driver of the Year trophy at the Harness Writers annual awards dinner at Dover Downs on Sunday, January 27.

Reigning Horse of the Year Curlin will get serious at Santa Anita Park this Monday, when he works five furlongs over Santa Anita's Pro-Ride synthetic main track between races. The work, which will be performed in company with another Steve Asmussen trainee, has been scheduled between races four and five (approx. 2:45 p.m. pt) and it is expected that if all goes well with the work, he will be pre-entered on Tuesday for a defense of his $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic title and a showdown with Big Brown at Oak Tree at Santa Anita on Oct. 25.
