BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Investigators searching a Monroe County creekbed say they found more possible evidence Monday that may indicate IU student Jill Behrman's body was placed there.

'Critical' Evidence Supports Behrman Theory, Agent Says

Searchers found at least one item of possible evidentiary value Monday, Agent Gary Dunn said. The development follows the discovery of a "critical" piece of evidence over the weekend -- a finding that supports investigators' theory that Behrman's body was placed in Salt Creek.

Authorities are combing a mile-long portion of Salt Creek that is being drained for the investigation. Dunn declined to say what had been found Saturday and Monday.

"We have found a piece of evidence (Saturday) which we believe corroborates our story," Dunn said. "From many number of standpoints, we believe it to be a critical piece of evidence. That just energizes us that much more as to why we should be there."

Two dams were built in the Bloomington-area creek last week to drain water away from the location where investigators believe her body is located.

Much, but not all, of the water had been pumped out of the targeted portion of the creek by Monday.

Behrman (pictured, above left) disappeared at age 19 while on a bike ride on May 31, 2000. Investigators believe Behrman's body was dumped in the creek after she was hit by a car while biking along a nearby road.

Monday's search ended around 5:30 p.m. Investigators will be back at the creek Tuesday.
