Police Want To Question Rape Suspect About Behrman
Man Is Accused Of Raping Pittsburgh Woman
The FBI is investigating whether an Indiana truck driver accused of raping a Pittsburgh woman is tied to a series of murders in the Midwest and Texas, and Indiana police want to question him about missing Indiana University student Jill Behrman.
Law enforcement agencies in the Midwest are working with the FBI
to determine whether Randall Bishop, 33, of Paoli, Ind., is connected to six shooting deaths along interstates 70 and 35, police in Indiana and Missouri said.

Bishop, accused of raping a woman in a restaurant bathroom, is charged with rape and involuntary deviant sexual intercourse.
He pleaded not guilty, and is being held with bail set at $1 million, which
was increased by City Magistrate Wrenna Watson from $100,000.
St. Charles, Mo., homicide detective Rich Plummer has said that his office is working with the FBI to determine whether there is evidence linking Bishop to the 1992 murders of five women and one man.
"(The) thing that sticks out is his face. It's his description,
his photograph, what we think our killer looks like, his occupation
and other things I won't elaborate on," Plummer said. "There's a
possibility here, but I don't know if this is the right guy. It's
very early and this is an old case."
The six people who were shot along the interstates were killed
with a .22-caliber weapon. Their deaths have been linked through
ballistic evidence.
Allegheny County Assistant District Attorney Bruce Beemer said
Monday that police want to know whether Bishop can provide any
information about the May 2000 disappearance of Behrman.
Authorities say that the college sophomore was riding her bike near
Bloomington when she disappeared. The bicycle was later found, but
Behrman is still missing.
Beemer made the statements at Bishop's preliminary hearing in
Pittsburgh.
But Special Agent Doug Garrison of the FBI's Indianapolis office
said Tuesday that Bishop has not been connected to the Behrman case and has not been considered a suspect.
Authorities in Pittsburgh requested that Indiana FBI agents
interview Bishop's wife, Garrison said.
"If we hadn't received this lead from Pittsburgh to interview
his wife about the case there, we never would have heard about this guy," Garrison said.
Directory assistance could not provide a telephone number for
Bishop's home.
Bishop is a truck driver for R.B. Carriers Inc., of
Jeffersonville, Ind. Employees at the company said the FBI
contacted them, looking for dispatching and routing information.
Paoli police Officer Matt Gilmore said he was shocked that
Bishop was charged with rape in Pittsburgh.
"I've dealt with him a couple of times and I thought he was a
real nice guy," Gilmore said. "I always thought he was really
religious. I remember when we arrested a buddy of his for drinking
and assaulting a woman. Bishop and a minister came down and prayed
for his soul."
"He was home every day. He didn't bother nobody. He seemed like a nice guy, and if he did it, it would shock the crap out of me," neighbor Vickie Denton said.
