Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti and the field of drivers picked up their checks Monday night at the victory banquet.

Drivers picked up a record purse this year, topping out at $10.6 million. Franchitti picked up $1.6 million of that for himself and the Andretti Green racing team.

Franchitti, with his wife Ashley Judd looking on with pride, got the check, his likeness on the Borg Warner Trophy, a champion's ring, the checkered flag and the Corvette pace car.

"This is an exceptional race, and the more I become a part of it, the more it has become a part of me," Franchitti said. "To compete here, it takes over your life. It's awesome to win it. I feel incredibly privileged, especially this morning when I got a good look at the trophy, I realized some of the company I'm in and I'm humbled by it."

Michael Andretti, 44, said this year's 500 was his last. Andretti is the driver who has led the most laps at the speedway without winning.

Phil Giebler was named Rookie of the Year, edging out Venezuelan rookie Milka Duno.

The annual Scott Brayton Spirit Award went to Tony Kanaan.
