Kenyans Tie For Dramatic Win In Mini-Marathon
Near-Perfect Conditions Greet Runners, Walkers

INDIANAPOLIS -- The 32nd running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon made history Saturday with a dramatic finish.Kenyans Lamecho Mokono and Valentine Orare crossed the finish line at the same time. Both were declared winners after race officials reviewed video and photographs and couldn't determine a clear-cut winner."I knew I won the race, because I saw the photo camera and I was ahead by one step," Mokono said, before both were declared winners of the 13.1-mile race.Mokono and Orare crossed the finish line in 1:02:53. It was the first time in race history that co-winners were declared.Women's winner Janet Cherobon defended her title. She finished the race in 1:14:11."I love it. The people here are great, and that's why I keep coming back," Cherobon said.Tony Iniguez finished first in the wheelchair division -- his third Mini-Marathon victory -- in just over 47 minutes."This year, I tried to keep up with the pace car and the cyclist," Iniguez said. "If they'd get ahead of me, I'd try to catch them."It was a beautiful morning for the 39,000 runners and walkers who took part. Clear skies and cool temperatures provided near-perfect conditions.Craig McMains was among those who entered the race for the first time."It was great," McMains said. "It felt great crossing the finish line. Everybody's cheering for you. It was definitely the highlight."
