INDIANAPOLIS -- Plenty of cars hit the track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Wednesday, but none that go 200 mph.Community Day at IMS allows race fans to take the family car around the famed oval, get driver autographs and much more, 6News' Rick Hightower reported. It's a lifelong personal dream for hundreds of Indianapolis 500 fans to get their own car or truck on the world's most famous racetrack.Even though top speed was about 30 mph, that's always the highlight of Community Day."Of all of our events and program that happen throughout the month of May, I think Community Day is one of the greatest," said Brandy Davis-Handy of the 500 Festival committee. "It really does give race the opportunity to do the things ... that they've never been able to do."While many made personal history on the track, others had a chance to view the past in the pits, where vintage cars were on display. For some, Community Day was a chance to bring out a new generation of race fans for the first time.Drivers such as Milka Duno posed for pictures and signed autographs for fans -- memories they will treasure for a lifetime.About 15,000 fans were expected at the track for the event.
