Josh Duhamel in "Transformers"

Actor Duhamel To Drive Indy 500 Pace Car

Star Excited About 'Great Honor'

POSTED: 1:09 pm EDT April 30, 2009

Actor Josh Duhamel has a new role for himself in May: pace car driver for the Indianapolis 500.

Duhamel stars in the upcoming action movie "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

He also had roles in the soap opera "All My Children" and the primetime drama "Las Vegas."

The 36-year-old North Dakota native is married to singer-songwriter and actress Fergie.

Duhamel will drive a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, leading the field of 33 drivers to the green flag for the May 24 race. The car also appears in the new "Transformers" movie.

Last year, the pace car was driven by two-time Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi.

"The Indy 500 is a legendary race, and it's a great honor to be driving the Camaro pace car in it," Duhamel said.

"As a star in one of Hollywood's expected blockbusters this summer, it's only fitting that he will lead the field to the start of 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing' on Memorial Day weekend," said Joie Chitwood, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president and CEO.
