IU Grad Crowned 500 Festival Queen

Indy-Native Majored In Political Science, Spanish, Management

An Indianapolis native and recent Indiana University graduate was named 2009 500 Festival Queen Saturday.

Annie Berning, 21, was crowned at the annual Breakfast at the Brickyard.

Berning graduated from IU earlier this month, where she majored in political science, Spanish and management. She is a 2005 graduate of Southport High School.

As 500 Festival Queen, Berning took home a $2,500 educational scholarship and will ride in the 500 Festival Parade in downtown Indianapolis on May 23.

This year's 500 princesses represented 10 Indiana colleges and 25 cities and towns. They were selected from 245 applicants based on communication skills, poise, academic performance and community and volunteer involvement.
