Helio Castroneves, winner of the 93rd Indianapolis 500, collected a check for more than $3 million Monday night -- a record race payday and the lions share of the total $14.3 million purse.

Castroneves is the first driver in 21 years to become a three-time champion.

The Brazilian driver is on a big high just weeks after things looked bad for him during his tax evasion trial.

"I questioned a lot why it happened to me. In tough times, I was questioning a lot. I never lost faith, but I was questioning," Castroneves said. "Thank you so much and God bless you all."

Castroneves had a near-perfect month of may, claiming pole position for the race and the pit stop competition before taking the checkered flag.

After collecting his winnings in Indianapolis Monday night, Castroneves jetted to New York City, where he was to appear on "Live With Regis and Kelly" Tuesday morning.
