INDIANAPOLIS -- Irvington, a neighborhood on Indianapolis’ east side, is said to be one of the oldest areas in Indianapolis, but as of lately, new developments don't show its age.
The neighborhood with a small-town feel is quickly becoming a hub for boutiques, breweries and restaurants.

It's a 6-month old California cuisine café featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner bites along with homemade desserts.
The former deli, now turned café, is run by Laura Johnston who bakes all treats herself and focuses on making items from scratch. She’s not new to the idea of entrepreneurship, as her husband owns Blend Cigar Bar on Indy’s north side.
Bittersweet’s menu features items like smoked salmon and asparagus, Chinese chicken salads, fish tacos, Peppadew grilled cheese and a variety of sandwiches, wraps and sides. If you love lemonade, you’ll have to give theirs a try (it has a hint of lavender).

A variety of sparkling, white and red wines are up for grabs.
Of course, it couldn’t be sweet without dessert. Johnston creates wedding cakes and other desserts for special occasions when she’s not making carmel, apple, coconut and carrot cakes for the cafe.
Earlier this month Johnston unveiled her fall menu featuring pumpkin cheesecake muffins, butter pecan and apple flavored desserts.
