Food on the Flye: Tinker Street had me at ‘hello'

Every time I drive past Tinker Street, the place looks packed! So I just had to find out what's drawing everyone into the trendy near north side hot spot.
 
Self-described as a cozy urban cottage on 16th street, Tinker Street Restaurant and Wine Bar had me at "hello."   
 
Located in Indy’s Herron-Morton place neighborhood, the restaurant’s dazzling outdoor dining and bar area, with string lights, welcomed us in.  

Once seated inside, the fried Brussels sprouts were calling my name. Listed on the menu as a “share plate,” I really tried hard to share, but the Brussels Sprouts, fried and covered with almond dukkah spice and dijon vinaigrette, made it quite difficult.  

Good thing they were piled high with plenty to go around!  

From the “land & water” portion of the menu I had the delicious gulf shrimp, grits, bisque, green tomato chowchow and scallion, one of Tinker Street’s most popular items, and a staple on its seasonally changing menu. The grits were smothered with a savory bisque, with a generous portion of shrimp to top it off.


 
My friend had the pork belly, pole beans, black lentils and creme fraiche, with a plum glaze, which was also very tasty.
 
Finally, my selection from the “confections” part of the menu: delicious banana crème pie with vanilla wafer crumble and banana brulee.
