INDIANAPOLIS – A hint of sweet and spice combined with big flavor is what owners at one Irvington restaurant serve up each day.

Café Carib Indy, found on East Washington Street, is a place customers go for the upbeat music and drinks – but stay for the authentic Jamaican cuisine.

Owner Larry Wharton grew up in New York, but his wife Peta-Gay, is who brings the bold flavors to Café Carib. Peta-Gay grew up in Jamaica, which is where the restaurant’s authentic dishes originate from.

The couple also owns Taste of the Caribbean food truck often spotted around the city.

At Café Carib, guests will find dishes like the Conch Fritter created with Conch meat, sweet peppers, carrots, green onion, corn, bacon and other ingredients, along with Jamaican style jerk chicken cooked over an open flame.

The menu also offers a variety of nachos and mac and cheese plates.
