As "Good Morning Americas" Robin Roberts prepared to undergo a bone marrow transplant to treat a rare blood and bone marrow disorder, one Hoosier family is fighting a similar battle.
Like Roberts, Joel Denney, 27, of Fishers, has myelodysplastic syndrome and needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.
Roberts sister is a compatible match for her transplant, but Denneys sister, Laura Linville, isnt, RTV6s Anne Kelly reported.
Denneys family is urging people to register to become donors to increase his chances of finding a match.
Im his only sibling. It was my greatest hope to be able to provide him with that life. I was tested when he was 3 years old, when he was diagnosed. Thats when we found out I was not a match, Linville said.
Doctors told Denney it's crucial that he finds a match soon.
