Health officials have confirmed two human cases of the West Nile virus in Hamilton and Marion counties.

No details were released the infected individuals or where they live.

Besides the two human cases, the virus was found in a crow in Marion County and in mosquitoes in 44 counties across the state, health officials said.

"Unfortunately, these two cases tell everyone that despite the dry conditions and hot temperatures, the virus is circulating in the state and we're susceptible to infection," State Health Commissioner Dr. Gregory Larkin said in a news release.

West Nile virus can cause an illness with symptoms including fever, headache, body aches, swollen lymph glands or a rash.

Health officials urged Hoosiers to take steps to protect themselves from being bitten by mosquitoes.
