The number of obese adults in Indiana has shot up for the second year in a row, making the state the 15th-highest in the country, according to an annual report.

"F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2011," a report from Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, found adult obesity rates increased in 16 states in the past year and did not decline in any state.

Indiana nears the top of the list, with an adult obesity rate of 29 percent. In 1995, 18.3 percent of people in Indiana were obese.

The annual report found that 12 states now have obesity rates above 30 percent. Four years ago, only one state was above 30 percent.

Since 1995, when data was first available for every state, obesity rates have doubled in seven states and increased by at least 90 percent in 10 others, researchers found.

Today, the lowest obesity rate in any state -- Colorado at 19.8 percent -- would have been the highest rate in 1995.

Along with increasing rates of obesity, the study also showed there have been dramatic increases in rates of diabetes and high blood pressure, conditions that are associated with obesity.
