INDIANAPOLIS - About 120 Indianapolis moms were part of a global effort Saturday to break a world breastfeeding record.
The women, members of Indy Breastfeeding Moms, attempted to set a record in an event called the Big Latch On.
The event was scheduled in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week, part of an effort to promote the health benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child.
"The idea out there that moms aren't interested in breastfeeding isn't true," said Tina Cardarelli, state breastfeeding coordinator at Indiana Perinatal Network. "It's just that we fall short of supporting those moms to breastfeed early on."
It wasn't immediately known if the record was broken.
