Milwaukee Brewers (12-7) At Chicago Cubs (7-12), 8:05 P.m.
(Sports Network) - Left-hander Rich Hill brings a 16-inning scoreless streak into tonight's start for the Chicago Cubs, who play the middle portion of their three-game set with the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field. Since allowing a sixth-inning home run to Milwaukee's Corey Hart in his first start of the season on April 6, Hill has yet to see an opponent cross the plate while on the mound. He threw seven shutout innings against the Reds on April 14 and followed up that outing with a eight scoreless frames against the Braves on Thursday. Hill allowed just four hits and three walks while striking out seven against Atlanta, and improved to 3-0 on the season with an eye-popping 0.41 earned run average. In addition to just the one earned run allowed, hitters are batting a miniscule .113 against Hill in 2007. Hill is 1-0 in three games -- two starts -- against Milwaukee in his career, with that victory coming this year. He has a 1.47 ERA against the Brewers, allowing just three runs in 18 1/3 innings. He will be opposed by right-hander Jeff Suppan, who brings a 2-2 record and a 3.91 earned run average into tonight's start for the Brewers. He earned a win last time out, when he was charged with three runs and six hits over six innings in a victory over the Pirates. Suppan is 4-4 with a 3.22 ERA in 13 career starts against the Cubs. In the series opener on Monday, Prince Fielder hit two solo home runs, including the game-winner in the 12th inning, and the Brewers erased an early four-run deficit and hung on for a 5-4 win over the Cubs. Carlos Villanueva (1-0) tossed four shutout innings of relief to earn the victory for the Brewers, who have won three straight. Claudio Vargas started on the mound for Milwaukee and was touched for six hits and four runs in four innings. J.J. Hardy also homered for the Brewers, while Derrick Turnbow pitched a scoreless 12th for his first save of the season. Milwaukee catcher Johnny Estrada collided with Fielder while going after a popup in the seventh inning and left the game with left knee contusion. He is listed as day-to-day. Cubs reliever Rocky Cherry (0-1), recalled before the game to fill the roster spot opened when Wade Miller was placed on the 15-day disabled list, gave up Fielder's second homer. Carlos Zambrano allowed five hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings for the Cubs, who have lost two in a row. Zambrano struck out seven and walked three. Aramis Ramirez hit a solo homer and added a sac fly for the Cubs, who led 4-0 after three innings but couldn't hold on. Derrek Lee had three hits and a pair of RBI in the setback. The victory for Milwaukee evened the season series at two games apiece, as Chicago won two of three over the Brewers earlier in the season. The clubs split 16 matchups last year.
