Colorado Rockies (62-59) At Los Angeles Dodgers (63-59), 10:10 P.m.
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers will shoot for their fourth straight win tonight when they resume a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Chavez Ravine. Los Angeles won two straight over Houston in the back end of a four-game set before recording a 6-4 victory over the Rockies in Friday's series opener. Starting pitcher Eric Stults pitched seven strong innings and gave up just two hits and two runs with nine strikeouts and a walk. Stults, a right-hander, was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to the game and retired the final 13 batters he faced. Takashi Saito posted his 32nd save of the season in the ninth inning. Juan Pierre drove in a pair of runs and Jeff Kent homered for the Dodgers, who are 2 1/2 games off the NL wild card lead and 6 1/2 games behind Arizona for the top spot in the National League West standings. Struggling pitcher Chad Billingsley will lead LA this evening and he is 7-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 34 games (11 starts) this season. Billingsley has dropped his last four starts and was beaten by Houston the last time out on August 13. He was reached for four runs and six hits in five innings of work at Dodger Stadium. The right-hander is 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in four career games (two starts) against Colorado. Colorado has dropped two in a row and three of four. In last night's loss at Dodger Stadium, Rockies starter Josh Fogg was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings. Garrett Atkins belted a two-run homer and Troy Tulowitzki knocked in a run for Colorado, which is three games off the NL wild card race and seven games behind in the hunt for NL West supremacy. Taking the ball for the Rockies tonight will be rookie Franklin Morales, who is making his major league debut. Morales is the seventh Colorado pitcher to make his debut this season and went 2-0 with a 3.71 ERA in three starts with Triple-A Colorado Springs. In 17 starts with Double-A Tulsa, Morales recorded a 3-4 record with a 3.48 ERA. The left-hander last took the mound on Monday against Tacoma and yielded five runs and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings. Los Angeles leads the 2007 season series with the Rockies by a 5-4 margin, with the Dodgers taking three of four at Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers went 15-4 against Colorado a year ago, including an 8-2 mark at home.
