Rockies Bring Up Nix

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies purchased the contract of infielder Jayson Nix on Tuesday.

Nix started at second base this season for the Rockies on opening day, but only batted .111 with two RBI in 17 games at the big-league level.

The 25-year-old Nix hit .299 with 14 home runs and 43 RBI at Triple-A Colorado Springs this year since being sent down.

Also on Tuesday, the Rockies optioned outfielder Seth Smith to Colorado and designated pitcher Josh Newman for assignment.

Smith batted .256 with one homer and three RBI in 13 games with the Rockies.
