Toronto, ON -- (Sports Network) - Roy Halladay was his usual dominant self on the mound and Marco Scutaro matched a career-high with four hits and four runs driven in and also scored three times, as the Toronto Blue Jays crushed the New York Yankees, 14-3, to cap a three-game set.Halladay (15-9) yielded just three runs on five hits while fanning nine and walking two batters over seven frames. Alex Rios and Matt Stairs both had three RBI for the Blue Jays, who have won seven of their last nine. John McDonald also knocked in a pair in the win while Joe Inglett had a career-high four hits. "It's fun pitching in games like that, especially against good teams," Halladay said. "It's nice to have those runs and you can go out and be aggressive." Toronto moved to seven games behind deadlocked Boston and Minnesota for the lead in the Wild Card race. Sidney Ponson (7-4) suffered the loss as he was pounded for seven runs on eight hits in just two-plus innings. Hideki Matsui accounted for all of the New York offense with a three-run homer in the seventh. The Yankees, who have dropped four of their last seven, gave up a season-high 21 hits and suffered their worst margin of defeat on the season. "My sinker wasn't there, my slider wasn't there and my changeup wasn't there. I was just pitching (expletive)," Ponson said. "I let these guys down today." NY fell six games behind the BoSox and Twins in the Wild Card race. Toronto made it 1-0 in the first inning. Inglett led off with a double, moved to third on Scutaro's ground out and crossed home as Rios dropped a single between Bobby Abreu and Johnny Damon. Adam Lind singled to lead off the second inning, moved to second base on Lyle Overbay's single and held at third as Stairs flied out. Barajas then offered a sac fly to Damon in center, and it was 2-0. The Blue Jays poured it on in the third. It was first and second after Inglett and Scutaro opened the frame with singles. Rios plated a pair with a double to right field and Vernon Wells was issued a free pass. Lind kept it going with an RBI single and David Robertson was brought in to relieve Ponson. Robertson loaded the bases as he walked the first batter he faced, Overbay, but Stairs was caught looking at the third strike and Barajas popped up to Jason Giambi for the second out. McDonald, though, came through with a two-run single back up the middle, making it 7-0. It was first and second as Scutaro and Rios led off the fourth with consecutive singles. Wells then lined out to Xavier Nady in left and Billy Traber was called on in relief. Lind loaded the bases with a single and Overbay went down swinging for the second out. Just as it looked like Traber would get out of the jam, Stairs crushed a bases-clearing double to center field to balloon Toronto's lead to 10-0. Scutaro deposited a Traber slider over the fence in left, which plated McDonald and Inglett, to make it 13-0 in the fifth. Matsui's homer in the seventh pulled the Yanks within 10 runs as it scored Alex Rodriguez and Nady. Scutaro's single in the eighth scored Barajas and made it 14-3. Game Notes Derek Jeter is now one hit shy of 2,500 for his career...Prior to the game, Toronto acquired infielder Jose Bautista from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later...Toronto evened the season series at 6-6...The oft-injured Carl Pavano is scheduled to start for the Yankees on Saturday in Baltimore, according to the Newark Star Ledger...Wells, 0-for-4, was the only Toronto starter to not record a hit.
