Jarrod Washburn was in line to snap a five-start losing streak, as he struck out eight batters over 6 2/3 innings, but J.J. Putz (6-4) gave up the tying two-run homer to Shin-Soo Choo in the bottom of the ninth. Grady Sizemore had two hits and scored once for the Indians, who have lost back-to-back contests following a 10-game winning streak. Anthony Reyes surrendered seven hits and a run over seven innings in the start for the Indians. Ryan Garko singled ahead of Choo's homer to center with nobody out in the ninth, but the Mariners came back in the 10th against Jensen Lewis (0-4). Suzuki walked, and with one out Adrian Beltre singled to right field, putting runners at the corners. Ibanez then singled to right field to drive in Jeremy Reed. Jose Lopez then had an infield hit to shortstop, but Beltre was out because he was hit by the ball. Indians manager Eric Wedge contested that Lopez's hit should have been ruled a double play, and he was ejected after arguing with third base umpire Fieldin Culbreth. Burke then singled up the middle to drive in Ibanez. Sizemore doubled to right off Sean Green to start the bottom of the 10th. With two outs, Jhonny Peralta singled to center to make it a one-run game, but Randy Messenger picked up the save by getting pinch-hitter Victor Martinez to ground out.
