Kids To Hand-Deliver Indy Super Bowl Bid To Team Owners

Organizers Hope Youth Ambassadors Add Personal Touch To Bid

The final touches were put on Indianapolis' final bid to host the 2012 Super Bowl Thursday as youth ambassadors prepared to hand-deliver packets of information to NFL team owners.

A committee assembled the bids Thursday morning, a final draft of the city's hopes of hosting the big game. The group of 32 eighth-grade students fly out of Indianapolis Friday with bids in hand to deliver to owners and senior management of each of the league's teams.

The packets, which contain a book filled with hundred of pages of information, explain why Indianapolis thinks it is the best choice to host the Super Bowl.

"You provide every single detail that they want, but also ... try to sell the city in the best possible way," said Allison Melangton, senior vice president of Indiana Sports Corp.

A few days ago, the bid committee held a draft to announce the team each student will visit, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.

"In some of the cities, they're going to have a cheerleader and mascot there to meet the individual ... and their chaperone," said Susan Baughman, vice president of Indiana Sports Corp. "In some case, they're going to meet them at the airport and give them a ride."

Northwest Airlines is providing free tickets for the children to fly out with chaperones.

Indianapolis submitted a rough draft for consideration on April 1. Many aspects of the city's failed 2011 bid remain intact, but there are several new aspects in the new effort, including a Super Bowl Village, which aims to embrace the city's cold weather climate often frowned upon by league officials.

Tem owners meet in Atlanta on May 19 and 20 to hear the bids, during which Indianapolis will make a presentation.

A final decision is expected on or before May 22.

Phoenix and Houston are also vying for the game. A winning bid is expected to bring an estimated $120 million to the winning city's economy.
