Hotel Workers Rally As Senate Takes Up CIB Fiasco
Dead House Bill Would've Required Hotels To Disclose Pay, Benefits

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis hotel workers rallied on the steps of the Indiana Statehouse Monday morning as the Senate searches for a way to prop up the financially troubled Capital Improvement Board.A small group of hospitality industry employees said they supported a House bill that required downtown hotels to provide information about pay and benefits to the state as part of the CIB bailout. That bill died in committee because Republicans considered hotel information superfluous to the $47 million CIB operating deficit
The workers said they want legislative disclosure about the quality of jobs downtown."I'm a single guy and would like to raise a family in the next decade, but I can't afford a car right now, or even cable television or a mortgage," said hotel worker Liam Roche. "We're trying to make our lives better and … those of other hospitality workers downtown."The Senate will convene Monday afternoon to consider a two-year state budget, which could include money to bailout the CIB.They will also consider a fail-safe provision to keep state government running in case no budget bill passes by the June 30 deadline.Watch 6News and refresh this page for updates.
