CONNERSVILLE, Ind. -- Officials said Thursday that Visteon Corp.'s decision to file for bankruptcy protection has complicated efforts to attract a new business to a closed eastern Indiana factory.Connersville leaders have been trying to buy the 1.6 million-square-foot plant that Visteon closed in 2007 so they can offer it to Carbon Motors Corp. of Atlanta, which is considering sites to build high-tech police cars. The Economic Development Group of Fayette County's executive director said Carbon Motors has set a July 10 deadline to pick a location and must name that site on a federal loan application due July 31.
Bryan Coats told the Palladium-Item of Richmond that there are worries that action can't be taken quickly enough on the Connersville plant with Visteon in bankruptcy court.Carbon Motors would bring 1,300 jobs to struggling Connersville if that city is selected. The company is looking for a place to build the E7 police interceptor, a fuel-efficient and fast vehicle built specifically for law enforcement. The city rolled out a welcome mat for Carbon Motors executives in May. Six cities are being considered for the plant.
