UPDATED: 4:28 p.m. EST March 18, 2004

Members of a wholesale club warehouse store could be at risk for possible credit card theft, according to company officials.

BJ's Wholesale Club officials said they are working with authorities to determine a possible hacking into its computer system, resulting in possible credit card information theft.

The company said they, along with a computer security firm, are conducting a review of its computer systems, and they have ruled out a possible centralized threat. Officials said they believe only a small, unspecified number of members could be affected.

The merchandiser has 8 million members in the Eastern United States and will send letters to its members addressing them of the investigation and providing tips to avoid credit card theft.

Customers with questions can contact BJ's by calling (800) 257-2582. If you believe you might be a victim of credit card theft, you should call your credit card company.
