INDIANAPOLIS - Mosquitoes are a pesky nuisance that also pose health risks and experts have tips on how to fight the problem.
The pests can be difficult to get rid of and sometimes it may take a professional to handle the problem.
“It only takes a soda bottle cap full of water to breed several hundred mosquitoes,” said Ken Frost with Mosquito Squad of Indianapolis.
Frost recommended to empty bird baths, kiddie pools and flower pot saucers. He said to not forget about the gutters.
“Not only are mosquitoes a nuisance when you’re out trying to have a family barbecue, but they are also a health risk. For example, you could get West Nile,” said Angie Hicks of Angie’s List.
Many people don’t know that plants act as a natural mosquito repellent. Mosquitoes do not like catnip, lavender, marigolds, basil or peppermint.
Experts said it could be best to let Mother Nature do the job.
