The specialty supermarket where David Letterman bagged groceries as a teenager could be closing its doors.

The owners of Atlas will meet with the store's meat cutter union Friday to discuss an ongoing labor dispute. If a solution isn't found, the market likely would close in May, officials said.

Atlas, which has been in business for more than 50 years, is known for its fresh meats and hard-to-find items.

"The place is like an institution, not just a grocery store," said one loyal customer who didn't give his name. "I hope they find a way to keep it open."

The store, located at 54th Street and College Avenue on Indianapolis' north side, became well-known after Letterman mentioned it on his television show.
