Officials said the driver of a car was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators said the deceased has not yet been identified.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a box truck rear-ended a 2003 Buick LeSabre, pushing the car into the rear end of a semi-tractor, crushing and igniting the car.

The semi-tractor and the Buick were slowing down because of heavy traffic from a construction zone.

Officials from the Grant County Coroner's Office said they are unable to determine if there was a passenger in the backseat of the car due to the extreme damage the vehicle sustained.

The driver of the box truck, Brad Anderson, 40, of Danville, Ind., was transported by ambulance to Marion General Hospital with burns to his arms and legs. He was later airlifted to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.

The driver of the semi, James Ilari, 48, of Louisville, did not sustain any injuries.

Investigators said no drug or alcohol use it thought to have contributed to the crash.

Southbound I-69 from the 59 mile marker at the Gas City exit was closed for hours while investigators cleaned up the scene.

This crash is still under investigation.
