INDIANAPOLIS -- The family of missing Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis student Molly Dattilo said Tuesday that new information about a pay phone call following her disappearance recently came to light.Dattilo was 23 years old and taking summer classes at IUPUI when she vanished on July 6, 2004. Investigators said she had gone to pick up a job application from a Wendy's restaurant on the city's west side.Dattilo's cell phone, identification and most belongings were found in the woman's apartment, leaving the family and police to suspect foul play.
Clues have been hard to come by over the more than two years since Dattilo's disappearance.Dattilo's sister, Celestra Hoffman, said investigators told the family that a call that came from a pay phone on Crawfordsville Road the night Dattilo disappeared came from the woman, but all that was heard on the other end of that line was someone hanging up."She might have caught herself in a bad situation. She knew that it was getting bad and she probably tried to call for help," Hoffman said. "We're thinking maybe someone hung up on her."The family said detectives are not able to tell them how they know the woman made the call. Hoffman said the family now hopes new information and new attention could bring them closer to learning what happened to her.A $100,000 reward for information about Dattilo remains in place.
