Police Probe Assault On Wheelchair User

Authorities: Man Choked Woman After Sex-Act Refusal

POSTED: 5:55 pm EST January 22, 2007

Police said they're trying to determine who recently choked a woman in a wheelchair after she rejected his sexual advances in her apartment complex.

Authorities said that when the 55-year-old woman maneuvered her electric wheelchair into the laundry room of the Arbor Glenn Apartments, a man followed and closed the door behind them.

"He then confronted her and exposed himself, wanting her to perform a sex act on him," Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters said. "She indicated she would not do so."

Police said the man choked her before leaving the area in a black Chevrolet Corsica. The woman was not seriously injured.

The woman told investigators that the attacker was black and about 6 feet tall, police said.
