Storm Leaves Thousands Without Power

Ice accumulation was one of the factors leading to power outages -- primarily in south-central Indiana -- as a winter storm pounded the state Tuesday.

Significant progress was made overnight and during the morning Wednesday in restoring power. By 11:45 a.m., the number of people without power was down to 3,100, with about 1,800 of those in Monroe County, according to Duke Energy. About 4,000 were reported without power at 5 a.m.

These numbers are down significantly from 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, when more than 14,300 people were without power.

Bartholomew County, which had a litte more than 1,000 people without power on Tuesday night, had only 60 people still in the dark as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Duke Energy has about 750,000 customers.

Repair crews and contractors were called in from the Carolinas to help get the power back on for everyone.
