A gun was fired as a Noblesville man handled it Wednesday, sending a bullet first into the man's finger and then his 8-year-old son, police said.

The man took himself and the boy to Riverview Hospital, which then sent the child to an Indianapolis hospital, police said.

The man was identified as George Hood, 30, and the boy was identified as Graden Hood, 8. Both were listed in stable condition at Methodist Hospital early Thursday morning.

Police said the gunfire happened at the man's apartment in the 800 block of Watermead Drive.

Authorities said they believe the shooting was accidental.
