Police: Drywall Workers Died Of Painkiller Overdoses

POSTED: 2:40 pm EDT March 16, 2007

Two men whose bodies were found in a building where they were doing drywall work died of drug overdoses, Westfield police and the Hamilton County coroner's office said Friday.

Roderick MacDonald, 38, of Noblesville, and Dennis Franklin, 56, of Sheridan, were found dead March 2 in a basement of a vacant office building at 230 E. Main St. Police said that both men had overdosed on Darvon, a pain reliever.

"There was no indication that this incident was intentional," Hamilton County Coroner Thurl Cecil said in a news release Friday.

Franklin had a blood-alcohol level of .146 percent and MacDonald's was .202 percent, police said. The legal limit for drivers is .08 percent.

A man who had hired MacDonald and Franklin found their bodies in the afternoon in separate rooms in the basement. People who work in nearby businesses told 6News that MacDonald and Franklin had been staying overnight in the building.

Earlier this month, police said the bodies had no signs of trauma and did not suspect foul play.
