PHILADELPHIA -- Indianapolis is taking the next step Tuesday in its bid to bring the Super Bowl to the city in 2011.Representatives of the committee behind the bid are scheduled to meet with NFL officials to discuss the proposal and make any necessary changes.Last week, Indianapolis' proposal was hand-delivered to NFL headquarters in New York.
The final decision will come at the owners' meeting May 23 in Nashville, Tenn., after each city makes a final 15-minute pitch.Phoenix and Dallas are also in the running to host the 2011 game.Details and specifics about Indianapolis' bid have been kept under wraps. Members of the bid committee said there are a few surprises that they hope will put Indianapolis ahead of other cities vying for the game.The construction of Lucas Oil Stadium is a big part of what is making the city's bid for the Super Bowl possible. Its proximity to downtown could be what seals the deal for Indianapolis.The Colts' Super Bowl victory in February gives Indianapolis more sizzle and more prestige -- something fans said should help the city's chances at landing the game.
