Boy Suffers Head Injuries, Broken Leg

A 13-year-old was seriously injured when he was stuck by a car, police said.

Joseph T. Smedley, of Crothersville, was jogging along South Kovener Street just after 8 p.m. Wednesday when he crossed West Main Street into the path of an oncoming car, police said.

Smedley was thrown about 50 feet by the impact, suffering head injuries, a broken leg and injuries to his arm.

He was taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour and later transferred to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

The driver of the car, Jackie N. Bowman, 17, was not seriously injured.
