Police on Friday released surveillance photos that they say shows a man wanted in the rape of a 76-year-old Indianapolis woman.

The woman told police a man raped her Wednesday after insisting on walking her from the Interim Central Library in downtown Indianapolis to her home, 6News' Renee Jameson reported.

The woman told 6News she had talked to the man at the library at about noon.

"He called me by name and I didn't recognize him. I guess I met him six months ago," the woman said.

She said that when she left the library, he insisted on walking her home. She said he followed her to her porch, and she told him to leave.

"I (said), 'You can leave me now. I'm OK, no problems,' and he refused to leave," the woman said.

The woman said she eventually offered him a drink. She said that when she entered her home and tried to close the door behind her, he forced himself inside.

"I was going to go to the kitchen and he shoved me into the bedroom," the woman said. "I said, 'Don't touch me. Leave me alone.' He wouldn't listen.

"He started ripping all my clothes off, (and he said) 'Shut up, b***h.'"

Police said that after the attack, the man forced the woman to return to the library with him. Surevillance pictures show the two were at the library shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to police.

When investigators let her look at surveillance video recorded at the library, she identified a man on the recording as her attacker, police said.

Authorities said he is a black man who is in his 40s and about 6 feet tall. He wore blue jeans and a leather jacket, police said.

The woman, whose face was bruised and bloodied, said she received a black eye from a slap to the face during the attack.

"He hit her in the face to gain her compliance," Indianapolis police Detective Lawrence Cahill said.

Police on Friday distributed fliers featuring the pictures of the man. The fliers were shown to workers at the library and to people in area businesses.

Police asked anyone with information about the case to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
