Former Colts Quarterback Charged After Party

Police: Trudeau Hosted Party Where Underaged Drinking Occurred

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jack Trudeau faces charges in connection with an underage drinking party at his home, police said.

Trudeau, 44, hosted a party at his home for his daughter's graduation, police said. Trudeau is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, 6News' Tanya Spencer reported.

According to police, there were about 80 students from Park Tudor High School at the party, for which Trudeau and his wife hired a band, set up tents and furnished water and soda.

Police got an anonymous tip that alcohol was also being served and went to the home.

"They noticed 20 or 30 juveniles run from the front of the house around to the back," said Boone County sheriff's Deputy A.J. Naekel. "They went around to the back of the house, where they noticed alcohol being consumed by the juveniles."

Police obtained a search warrant and gave a Breathalyzer test to everyone there. A 17-year-old who tested positive was sent home to his parents. Twelve others under 21 were arrested and taken to jail, along with Trudeau.

Trudeau's attorney, Mike Andreoli, said his client was being as responsible as parents could be -- even writing down kids' names and taking their keys as they arrived.

"They were not serving any alcohol. There were no plans to serve alcohol," said Mike Andreoli, Trudeau's attorney. "When the police arrived, some of the young men and women were still coming from prior parties and commencements."

Andreoli said anyone who tested positive for alcohol either snuck it in or drank before they got there.

Authorities launched a Party Crashers program about two months ago designed to curb underage drinking.

"We don't discriminate," Naekel said. "If there's a criminal act out there, we will enforce the law."

Andreoli said police went too far, administering a Breathalyzer to Trudeau's 7-year-old son.

"They went through underwear drawers," Andreoli said. "It turned into an excessive game of 'gotcha' for a celebrity host."

Trudeau posted bond Saturday morning and is scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday. If convicted, he could face a maximum penalty of up to a year in jail and $5,000 fine.

Police said Trudeau's wife will also be charged, but she was not arrested so she could stay home with the couple's children.
