FLAT ROCK, Ind. -- Police said they were investigating the death of an Edinburgh man whose body was found Friday in a field east of Flat Rock in Shelby County.A woman who was driving in the area said she found the body, later identified as David A. Hoagland, on Friday morning near a utility pole near County Road 125 West. The woman, Ellamae Smiley, said she saw a downed power line in the same field. Smiley told 6News that police told her Hoagland was holding bolt cutters.
"The policeman told me it looked like he was trying to cut the wire," Smiley told 6News' Cheryl Jackson.Police declined to confirm Smiley's account and said they didn't know the cause of death. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.Police took hours to release Hoagland's name in part because the body had no identification on it. Police said they were trying to determine how he got to the field, saying no abandoned car was found in the area.
