INDIANAPOLIS -- Police on Tuesday said they intend to enhance a surveillance video of a theft that ruined $400,000 of charity food, hoping it will give them a clearer view of two people in the recording.Authorities said two thieves stole copper tubing from Gleaners Food Bank on Friday, causing two freezers and a cooler to fail. By the time workers discovered the problem on Monday morning, much of the food inside the freezers and cooler had spoiled.Police said they believe the thieves took the tubing so they could sell it at a scrap yard.Authorities said surveillance video shows two men arriving at Gleaners, 1102 E. 16th St., on bicycles at about 8:30 p.m. Friday. One man acted as a lookout while the other went into the air conditioning unit area and started cutting the pipe attached to a huge freezer.Police called upon the public to come forward with information that will help them identify the thieves."There's people out there who know. It's time. They need to come forward and help us," Indianapolis police Lt. Jeff Duhamell said. The video did not show the thieves' faces well, but Detective Martha Richardson said the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has a process that can enhance the footage.Donations Sought; Kroger Commits $70,000, FoodGleaners provides food to several charities, and the loss will was preventing Gleaners from making this week's deliveries. Between Monday morning and 3 p.m. Tuesday, about 35 charities were told they would not get the food they were expecting, 6News reported. The food bank asked anyone who can donate food or help fixing the freezers and cooler to call it at 317-925-0191, Call 6's Rafael Sanchez reported. On Tuesday, the Kroger Co. said it would donate $70,000 to Gleaners and replace all the cheese that the food bank lost. Also, Kroger said it would conduct donation drives at its grocery stores and will match $10,000 of what people give there.Three radio stations -- WZPL (99.5 FM), WNTR (107.9 FM) and WXNT (1430 AM) -- said they would help Gleaners raise money during their morning broadcasts Wednesday morning. The stations, owned by Entercom Indianapolis LLC, will broadcast live from different Marsh supermarkets and collect donations of food and money starting at 6 a.m.The Marsh locations are:2904 South State Road 135, Indianapolis (WZPL's Smiley Morning Show) Allisonville Road and 116th Street, Fishers (WNTR's Ann Duran) 86th Street and Interstate 465, Indianapolis' northwest side, (WXNT's Abdul Hakim Shabazz) Area branches of Fifth Third Bank will accept donations to the radio stations' "Gleaners Help Fund" this week, Entercom Indianapolis said.
