A 14-year-old Martinsville boy was killed when he lost control of his ATV along a country road late Wednesday, conservation officers said.

Tyler Roland, 14, and a passenger, also 14, were riding near Brian Cemetery and Moulton roads when Roland lost control near a curve.

The ATV rolled on the driver's side, throwing Roland from the vehicle, conservation officers said.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene, but Roland was pronounced dead shortly before reaching the helicopter.

The 14-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

Conservation officers said speed appeared to have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The boy and his passenger were not wearing helmets or seat belts, conservation officers said.
