2 Rescued From Sandbar On White River

Men Became Disoriented When Kayak Capsized

POSTED: 10:27 am EDT September 17, 2007

Two men were pulled from a sandbar on the White River in Hamilton County Sunday evening after they became stranded.

Indiana State Police said Jonathan Chilson, 22, of Brownsburg, and Aaron Hickey, 31, of Indianapolis, were found about a mile north of Strawtown at about 9 p.m.

A scuba diving team went into the river and rescued the men, who were said to be suffering from mild hypothermia.

Police said the men told them that their kayak had capsized and that they weren't sure where they were or how deep the water was once it got dark.

The men had called 911 from a cell phone.
