INDIANAPOLIS -- One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting on the city's east side that some described as resembling a war zone Thursday night, police said.Police said Cornelius L. Stamps, 28, and Earl Henton, 31, both of Indianapolis, were working on a vehicle in the 2900 block of North Euclid Avenue when two males drove up in a white Chevrolet Lumina. The car's occupants exited and exchanged words with Stamps and Henton before gunshots were fired, police said. The two who arrived in the Lumina then re-entered the car and drove away.
Stamps was shot in the torso, and Henton was shot in the thigh. Police were called to the site at about 8:15 p.m.; Stamps was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead just before 9 p.m., authorities said.Henton was listed in serious condition at Wishard on Thursday night, police said.Investigators found at least 20 ammunition shell casings at the shooting site, and it appeared more than one weapon was fired, police said.Witnesses told police the Lumina was a 1990s model and had tinted windows.Anyone with information about the shooting can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
