Man Gets 180 Years In Assaults On Girl, Woman

Rape, Molestation Happened In Attacker's Apartment Complex

A man authorities called an illegal immigrant was sentenced Wednesday to 180 years in prison for raping a pregnant woman and molesting a girl -- both of whom lived in his apartment complex.

Jonathan Castillo, who pleaded guilty to several charges including rape, molestation and being a habitual offender, apologized in court before he was sentenced.

"I'd like to ask forgiveness from all the people that I harmed," he said.

Castillo, 28, was arrested May 22 on suspicion of abducting the 7-year-old girl from her Indianapolis apartment and molesting her in his nearby apartment that morning.

After that arrest, he confessed to entering a 21-year-old pregnant woman's apartment and raping her in January, police said.

Castillo lived in the south-side Indianapolis apartment complex -- located near the 200 block of East Hanna Avenue -- where the attacks happened, police said.

Authorities said Castillo is an illegal immigrant who returned to the U.S. after being deported in 2005.

In both attacks, police said, Castillo was armed with a knife and accessed the victims' apartments by climbing onto their balconies.

Castillo had prior convictions for theft and residential entry, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported.

Castillo's attorney, Ben Jaffe, said he couldn't explain why Castillo attacked the girl and the woman.

"I don't think many psychologists could even really explain why he did what he did," Jaffe said. "I think the judge felt like she didn't trust that if he was ever out this wouldn't happen again, so, she did what she felt was best."

The county's chief deputy prosecutor for trials, David Wyser, said Castillo was a "monster."

"When you have an individual who climbs up into an apartment and goes through a balcony and takes a child from a room where she is sleeping with her mother and takes her to another apartment and molests her, (and) additionally (breaks) into another apartment and (rapes) a pregnant woman ... I think calling him a monster is only mild," Wyser said.

Castillo has 30 days to decide whether to appeal the sentence.
