New Ticket To Ride Ready For Suburbanites

$2 Ticket Gets Trip From Fishers To Indy

North suburban residents have a new transportation option for getting to work in downtown Indianapolis.

The IndyGo commuter express route, which originates in Fishers, is set to debut next Monday, promising to deliver people downtown in 40 minutes, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported.

Some suburban dwellers have already been swayed to try the new ride. Stephanie Swaney, a legal secretary at Krieg Devault, is excited about riding instead of driving.

"I rode it before when we had hyperfix. I was very relaxed when I got to work. I saved money on repairs on my car," Swaney said. "It is a very relaxing way to read and listen to the news on your way to work."

Media members were given a chance to ride the route Monday afternoon.

"All you have to do is come to this site, at Eastern Star Church ... at 106th and Lantern Road, park your car and let us do the driving for you. You really don't have to think about it," said Ronnetta Spalding, of IndyGo.

The route was made possible by a $4.5 million federal grant. About $465,000 a year will go to Miller Transportation.

"We won the bid. We're providing the bus, the fuel, the maintenance. We're paying the driver. We do everything," said David Cangany, motorcoach manager.

The bus will make six stops downtown and will cost $2 to ride from Fishers.

Three buses will run the route. The first leaves at 6 a.m. and the last one goes at 9:30 a.m.
