INDIANAPOLIS -- Marion County Republicans on Tuesday called for Democrat Monroe Gray to step down as City-County Council president.Republican chairman Tom John said Gray short-circuited an investigation into a possible conflict of interest at Monday night's council meeting.John called Gray's actions at the meeting disgraceful.Questions have arisen because Gray draws salaries from both the council and the Indianapolis Fire Department without clear distinctions about which job he's doing at any specific time."Last night, we saw an abomination of government. We saw somebody who, while a motion was put on the floor for an investigation into his allegedly unethical practices, chose to use his powers as president to first try and subvert that order and then to actually kill the order for that council," John said.Gray, who faces eighth district challenger Kurt Webber in November, was not available for comment Tuesday morning, 6News reported.
