Police Arrest Man In Underpass Body Discovery

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was arrested Saturday afternoon in connection with the discovery of a nude woman's body beneath an Interstate 65 overpass earlier this week.

Derrick Martin, 34, was taken into custody a day after police released surveillance video of a man they called a person of interest in the case.

IMPD said several tips that came in after the surveillance footage was released helped them track down Martin, who is held on preliminary murder and confinement charges in the slaying of Debra Furnish, 48.

According to police, Martin has a criminal record and previously served time on a murder conviction. Police said that he also knew Furnish.

The victim's unclothed body had been thrown over a fence at 12th Street and Central Avenue. Information about how Furnish died was not released.
