BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Police are looking for two people that mugged, stabbed and beat up a jogger on Wednesday night. The incident happened at the Winslow Sports Park, near the city's YMCA, at about 10:30 p.m.According to police, the jogger tried to be a Good Samaritan, but it backfired when he was attacked, 6News' Cheryl Jackson reported.
Descriptions of the suspects are sketchy because there are no lights along the trail where the attack happened.Police said they think one man lured a 24-year-old jogger away from his run as the other got ready for the attack."He observed an individual. He seemed to be in some kind of physical distress, as if he were vomiting or sick," said Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters. When the victim went to help the man, he was accosted, beaten and stabbed in a thigh."He went over to speak with the individual, at which point the individual turned around on him, grabbed him by the collar and demanded his iPod," Qualters said.As one of the suspects ripped the iPod from the victim, another man came up from behind and beat and stabbed the victim, police said."He was pushed into a tree, causing some injury to his shoulder. He was beaten or kicked about the face and suffered some facial injuries as a result of that," Qualters said.Police found a knife they believe was used in the attack and hoped to gather DNA from it.The victim said he only saw one of the attackers. That man was described as between 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall with long, gray hair and a long, gray beard.Police said they hope surveillance video from a nearby business will provide some clues. The trail on which the man was attacked is secluded, but joggers frequent the area day and night. Until Wednesday, it had been considered a relatively safe place."There are some certain paths are around here that are very dark and you can't see anything. So, that's pretty scary," said Hannah Nixon.Police asked anyone who saw anything suspicious in the park between 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday night to call them.
