INDIANAPOLIS -- A wounded Marine from central Indiana is on his way to the nation's capitol with aid for other wounded heroes.Sgt. Klay South (pictured), 31, returned to Indianapolis in 2004 after he was seriously wounded in an attack in Fallujah, Iraq."I was shot point blank in the face by an AK-47," South said.Three years after that horrible ordeal, South runs Veterans of Valor, a nonprofit organization, out of an office on Indianapolis' south side to help other wounded heroes."The mission is simple -- to provide a service for the wounded combat servicemen," South said. "Whether it be someone who got shot in the face or a bad burn by an IED or roadside bomb, we're going to bring a little comfort to them."For the next month, South's mother, Janet, will help man the headquarters while South heads on a mission to Washington, D.C., where he will make special deliveries to servicemen and women at the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Medical Center."We're going to bring a backpack to them filled with a PSP, an iPod, patriot pillow, Bible and a set of warm-ups," South said. While in Washington, South may have two additional facial surgeries, but that's nothing compared to what he has already endured, 6News' Julie Pursley reported."It's amazing to see him go from not remembering how to do simple things to now," Janet South said."I've been in their shoes. I can kind of relate to them about how they're feeling and what they need and kind of help with their struggle with recovery," South said.
