A youth minister who missed a pretrial hearing on charges accusing him of having inappropriate sexual contact with a boy walked into a courtroom Friday and surrendered himself, authorities said.

Police had been looking for Tyree Coleman, 28, because he failed to appear at a pretrial hearing Wednesday, authorities said.

Coleman, a youth minister at Temple of Refuge Church, had been free on bond after being charged in August 2006 with two counts of sexual misconduct, sexual battery, criminal deviate conduct and child solicitation.

The charges stemmed from a sleepover at the church, at which Coleman allegedly had inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old boy.

When Coleman turned himself in Friday, he said he didn't know he was supposed to have attended Wednesday's hearing, authorities said.

Coleman was being held in jail Friday; a hearing on his bond has been set for Feb. 13.

On Thursday, Helen Marchal, the chief of staff for the Marion County prosecutor, said investigators were concerned about Tyree's activities while he was free on bond.

"We have received some preliminary information on some alleged activity that Mr. Coleman may or may not have been involved in, and that has been forwarded to the detective," Marchal said.
