INDIANAPOLIS -- A former Kokomo High School swim coach previously charged with possessing child pornography faces new charges on allegations he secretly videotaped girls as they undressed in a school locker roomProsecutors on Tuesday charged Brian Hindson, 40, of Westfield, with three counts of producing child pornography. The new charges allege Hindson possessed three videos of teenage girls undressing in a locker room of the Kokomo Memorial Gym.Authorities said they believe the videotapes were recorded between 2005 and 2007, while Hindson was the girls' and boys' swim coach at Kokomo High School.
At a federal court hearing Tuesday, a judge ordered that Hindson be held until his next court appearance. Hindson hung his head during the hearing."Obviously when somebody has never been involved in a situation like this, it's an anxiety-ridden experience," Hindson's attorney, Gregg Stark, said after the hearing.Authorities said three different girls were taped, and each tape shows one girl. Portions of the videos were shown to parents of each of the girls to verify their identities. Each was underage when the videos were produced, officials said. One of the videos appeared to have been produced with a camera hidden in a locker, according to a probable cause affidavit. The other two appeared to have been produced by a person in an office next to the locker room, holding a handheld camera at a vent of a door separating the two rooms, the affidavit said.Hindson last week admitted that he hid video cameras in locker rooms at Kokomo and Westfield high schools, a confession that came after someone claimed to have found videos of a naked female teen on a computer he had sold, authorities said.He was arrested last week after investigators found at his home eight child pornography videos not linked to the schools, authorities said.Hindson was charged last week in federal court with child pornography possession relating to the eight videos not linked to the schools.Besides being the KHS swim coach, he led the Westfield-based Central Indiana Aquatics swim club. KHS fired him last week. The FBI's probe began in March 2006, when two people in North Carolina told the agency they found two videos -- showing what appeared to be a high school female in a locker room changing out of a bathing suit -- on a computer that Hindson had sold them on eBay, according to the affidavit filed in federal court in Indianapolis. The FBI could not find the videos when it examined the computer, but it did find images of "two young females posing in a shower," the affidavit said. The affidavit didn't say what might have happened to the videos. On Jan. 29, the FBI's division in Charlotte, N.C., gave the information to the FBI's Indianapolis division, which talked to Kokomo police, leading to last week's search.Stark said Hindson "has been a reputable member of the community for many, many years.""I think he's due the presumption of innocence, as we are all entitled," Stark said.
